“We Are The Body Of Christ”

• WHO: Anyone entering Kindergarten – Grade 5 in 2012-13.  If we get enough inquiries, we will open VBS to children who are pre-school age (4/5 years) as well; please call Lori Mazzone at 345-9874 x222 or email lmazzone@stfrancisparish.net if you pre-school age child you would like to enroll.
• WHAT: Vacation Bible School offers children the opportunity to meet with friends in a Christian environment and explore their Catholic faith.  Days will include games, crafts, bible lessons, music, and snacks, all around this year’s theme of “We Are The Body Of Christ.” We will learn how to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We will identify our gifts and explore how we can use them to build community and be the body of Christ.
• WHEN: 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on June 18 – 22, 2012
• WHERE: St. Francis de Sales Church, 66 Granville Street, Newark
• HOW: Complete the registration form (on reverse) and return it to the Religious Education Office, 66 Granville Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
• SPACE IS LIMITED – REGISTER TODAY
• COST: Early Bird Registration by May 31 = $25 per child.  After May 31 until June 10 = $35 per child.  For safety reasons, all children must be pre-registered; therefore,  registrations will not be accepted after June 10, 2012 and walk-ins during our session cannot be accommodated. Due to the need for advance planning & purchase of supplies, we cannot offer refunds to those who register for the program and then decide not to attend. Thank you for your understanding. St. Francis Parish Festival 2012
Date: May 19, 2012
Time: Noon until 11:00 p.m.
Featuring Games, Food, Casino and Live Music
Come out to support the parish and enjoy your favorite festival activities. The 5K run is back which starts at 9:00 a.m. Visit PremiereRaces web site for registration or download the registration form here. The Festival begins at noon and will run until 11:00 p.m. Children’s games will run all day and into the evening. Food will be served all day. Students, bring your friends and play in the 3-on-3 basketball or the cornhole tournament.

Teens: be a VBS volunteer! Teens entering 7th grade or higher this fall -- we need you! Have fun and earn service hour credit! Apply to help with St. Francis de Sales Vacation Bible School on June 18-23, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To be eligible, you must be available for the entire session each day for at least 3 of the 5 days, and you must attend an orientation meeting on June 13 at 7 p.m. Volunteer application forms are available in the back of the church, or by emailing lmazzone@stfrancisparish.net. Application deadline is May 25.

SCHOLARSHIP INFO:   This year the Saint Francis de Sales Education Association (SFDSEA) will award scholarships to two graduating eighth-grade students, each valued at $250, to be used for tuition to a Catholic high school.   SFDSEA extends to you and your child the opportunity to apply for one of these scholarships.   Please refer to attached document for details. 

IT’S FINALLY HERE!! Our Spring Book Fair, hosted by Kristen Stare of Usbourne Books, will be held on Sunday, April 29th through Friday, May 4th. The Book Fair will be open after all Masses on Sunday, 4/29. Hours during the week will be Mon-Thurs 8:00am-3:00pm and Friday 8:00-11:00am. Proceeds will go toward helping us to meet the goal to build Michael’s Playground while also earning free books for the St. Francis Library. What a great time to stock up for summer reading! Just when everyone's lives seem to be really picking up speed as far as extracurricular activities. . .here comes another question per your time: "Do you have an interest in helping with Vacation Bible School this June?" VBS is June 18-22 from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Our theme is "The Body of Christ." As Religious Education Coordinator Lori Mazzone is not yet fully mobile per her broken ankle, leadership positions must be filled by May 6 in order to assist her. If the spots are not filled by May 6, we will need to determine if we will be able to run VBS this year. Our greatest need is for six adult bible lesson leaders. Lesson plans are provided for you; you only need to tweak them to your preference. You would arrive by 8:45 a.m., teach from 9 - 10 a.m., and then you could either go home or help out in another area of VBS for the rest of the morning.


Remember, VBS still counts for volunteer hours for those who need them for St. Francis School - you can earn hours for next year before school even starts!

Group leaders and additional helpers for VBS will be recruited once our leadership positions are filled.

Mrs. Rodenberger will be playing horn with the Heisey Wind Ensemble this Saturday the 21st at 8pm at the OSU Newark Reece Center. They will be holding a student ticket raffle during intermission and the winning student will receive $100 for their school instrumental music program. You can help us win by:

Usborne Books Summer Reading Book Fair to Benefit Michael’s Playground

St. Francis will be hosting an Usborne Books book fair April 29 - May 4. This year’s proceeds will go toward helping meet the goal to build Michael’s Playground while also earning free books for the St. Francis library.

The Book Fair will be open after all masses on Sunday; Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; and Friday 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Any hours that are unfulfilled will be billed for during the first week in May at the cost of $10.00 per hour. Tuition contracts for the 2012-2013 school year are being prepared. The invoices will be sent home the week of April 23rd for review. The commitment form with either payment in full or authorization for automatic payments will be due back in the office by May 18th. Thank you, Amber McCracken

4-12-12 End of School Dismissal

All buses are running as normal.  All students who are to be picked up will be in the Gym.  Do not attempt to pick up your child from the school office or try to wait for them outside of your car in the parking lot.  All parents must use the Pearl St. pick up line to pick up students from the Gym.
